5 Facts You Might Not Know about the 11.11 Global Shopping Sale

Single’s Day sales – also known as 11.11 – has come around once again. Sellers are throwing massive discounts, e-commerce and banking sites crashed because of the sheer volume of transactions in just a day.

It’s the only time in the year that gives you a good reason to spend your hard-earned cash. And now with the COVID-19 hampering our shopping plans, it’s hard to get our loved ones (and ourselves) presents, especially when Christmas is just around the corner.

While you’re planning out your shopping cart, here are some facts about Single’s Day you might not know about:

Single’s Day was created by students.

Back in 1993, a couple of students from Nanjing University were bored and felt like they wanted to start a revolution of some sorts as well as celebrate people who aren’t in relationships.

They picked November 11 because if you write it down in numbers it would be 11.11. The number one resembles a ‘bare stick’ which is also an internet slang for men who aren’t married.

Because of that, he can’t add ‘branches’ to the tree (family tree). But when the ones are placed together, it’s hope that single people would be paired up and have a relationship.

90 percent of sales were made through smartphones.

Yeah, I’m surprised too. It was reported back in 2019 that in China, a massive number of orders were made through smartphones which shocked U.S. experts. In western countries, most online purchases are made through the website.

Over on the eastern front, many incentives were given to people who use their phones. Even in Southeast Asia, companies like Shopee and Lazada have games, daily login challenges that will reward you with discount vouchers and ‘coins’ which you can trade for more vouchers or flat discounts.

You won’t believe the amount of baby formula that was sold.

Baby products can be expensive, so when a sale comes around, parents are sure to stock up enough to feed generations of future children. Back in 2014, about half a million cans of baby formula were sold during 11.11. That’s enough to feed all the two-year-old infants in China for two weeks.

Together with that purchase, parents bought about 66 million diapers.

Having children can be pretty expensive.

But remember, always there is noP for you to provide reasonable product and worth to purchase! Esepecially noP is preparing something special for all noP friends.

Single’s Day makes more money than three U.S. holidays combined.

One might think that nothing can beat deals during U.S. holidays like Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. But that’s far from the truth.

The amount of money made during the 11.11 sales will usually beat the three biggest online shopping days in the U.S. combined – Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.

In 2019, Alibaba made US$1 billion in just 68 seconds, and in 2017, Alibaba set a world record for the most payment transaction made in a day, at 256,000 payments in a second.

It’s amazing how the company’s servers didn’t melt.

3 million people are ready to handle your orders in 2020.

Alibaba, leading the 11.11 sales charge, has worked together with its logistics arm, Cainiao, to charter 3,000 flights and long-haul cargo ships to deliver goods to China.

3 million people from Cainiao will be involved to ensure logistics run smoothly. It will also be using 10,000 mobile lockers to avoid human contact when customers pick up their parcels.

At the same time, the logistics company plans to operate 700 chartered flights to deliver goods outside of China.

What are you buying this time around?

As we said, noP is having a great sales event. Stay tuned and make your shopping cart to be ready!
